A New Route!

Mommies took me to yet another vet this morning. They poked around on me (must be the favorite thing for vets to do) and talked to my mommies about my surgery. The new vet said something that made my mommies very excited: I don’t have to lose my leg (at least not at this point). They want to use a skin flap from my tummy to cover my knee, so there’s enough skin to go around after they take out the tumor that has everyone fussing over me. They tell me it will mean I have to spend less time recovering from surgery too, so I can get back to chasing squirrels quicker (the real priority here).

Mom to an 11 year old Australian Shepherd, Zuzu who was recently diagnosed with fibrosarcoma in her rear right leg. Amputation has been suggested, but we're still trying to figure it all out.

  1. Dang! We dont have any experience with the flap approach but I have read it is possible in one of the articles I read about STS. How bout this, Travis is being a guinea pig for the 5-FU treatment and you can try this one 🙂 It is nice to have options but hard to make that decision as to which one is the best for you and Zuzu. You have certainly done your homework and I have the utmost faith that whatever decision you arrive at will be the best option for Zuzu.

  2. Awww, Zuzu, you gotta do what you gotta do! If this seems like the right path forward for you then go for it girlfriend! Sure beats losing a leg (even though that is not all that bad :)). We gots your back no matter what you decide!!
    Xoxo,
    Travis Ray and the OP
